When I first heard about Auditor General Ibrahim Naeem's no-confidence motion in the Majlis, the first thing I wanted to know was how the MDP going to vote on this one.
When AG's salary was reduced in the Majlis, both MDP and DRP played a huge role in it. They were both accusing him of corruption. I was then surprised to hear that MDP's tone has changed and they were inclined more on defending the Auditor General this time around.
So then the debates started, and it led to physical fighting in Majlis, havoc on the street, and the next Monday, vote was taken without incidence and Naeem was out. Something doesn't add up here. Why did MDP go into such trouble risking public outcry and then suddenly without notice backed out?
I also wonder why everyone else except the MDP voted to throw him out.
Here is my take of the whole incidence. Naeem is a fantastic AG. He is strong in what he does and everyone seems to be afraid of him. I think MDP was also afraid that their audit, which will come next will not be any more digestible that the DRP audits. So its to their advantage to throw him out and try to get in someone of their own. The Majlis members also were afraid of him for the same reason. So I think it was to everyone's benefit that someone like him be fired.
So what does this tell us about our country. I think we are in a sad situation here. Corruption is everywhere be it in the courts, Majlis or anywhere else. If we are to claim back our society, we have to change the whole political force
